We are researching how children travel to and from school. The survey does not ask for your name, your address, your child’s name or your child’s school, and we ask you not to include them. Your answers are anonymous unless you choose to give us an email address at the end. We keep answers for no more than twenty-four months and then delete them automatically. You can ask us to delete yours at any time.
Who we are
Daniel Farrell, contactable at dannyfarrellvb@gmail.com, is the data controller for the information you give us in this survey. That means we decide what is collected and what happens to it, and we are responsible for looking after it.

What we collect

We do not ask for your name, your address, your full postcode, your child’s name, or the name of your child’s school, and we ask you not to type them into any box. If you do include something that identifies a person, we will remove it before we analyse the answers.
Our legal basis
We rely on your consent, which you give by continuing past the first page of the survey. You can withdraw it at any time by emailing us, and we will delete your response. Withdrawing consent does not affect anything we did with your answers before you withdrew it.
If you give us your email address, we ask separately for your consent to use it, and that consent is also yours to withdraw at any time.
About your child
Some of your answers are about a child. We have designed the survey to collect as little as possible: an age, how they travel, and what devices they carry. There is no name, no school, no address and no way to identify a child from the answers.
We do not ask children to complete this survey. It is for parents and carers.
Who sees your answers
- Daniel Farrell, who reads and analyses the responses.
- Front Foot Studio, which built the survey and looks after it on our behalf.
- Cloudflare, which hosts the page and stores the responses on our behalf, on servers in the European Union.
Each of them acts only on our instructions. We do not sell your information, we do not share it with advertisers, and we do not pass it to any school. Your information is stored in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area and is not transferred outside it.
If we are ever legally required to disclose information, for example by a court order, we will do so, and we will tell you unless we are prohibited from doing that.
How long we keep it

If you did not give us an email address, your response is anonymous and we have no reliable way to find it among the others. We will tell you that plainly rather than pretend otherwise. If you would like to be able to withdraw a specific response later, give us an email address, or note the date and time you completed it and tell us when you get in touch.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct it if it is wrong;
- ask us to delete it;
- ask us to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it;
- ask for it in a portable format;
- withdraw your consent at any time.
Email dannyfarrellvb@gmail.com and we will respond as quickly as we can, and in any event within one month.
You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, which regulates data protection in the UK. You can reach the ICO at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113. We would rather you came to us first so that we can put things right, but you do not have to.
Cookies and tracking
This survey does not use advertising or analytics cookies, and there is no tracking of you across other websites. The only technical storage we use is what the page needs to remember your place if you stop part-way through.
Automated decisions
We do not make any automated decisions about you, and we do not profile you.
Changes to this notice
If we change this notice we will publish the new version here with a new date. The version you agreed to when you took the survey is the one that applies to your answers, and we keep the old versions so that we can tell which one that was.
